Building System Design Internship

Job Description

We are looking for Building System Design Interns to join our team. This internship offers the perfect opportunity to launch your career. You will have the chance to gain experience in 2-D drafting, 3-D modeling, and building system design.

You will receive six months of hands-on experience utilizing AutoCAD to draft in 2-D and Revit to model in 3-D. You will have the choice of a Mechanical or an Electrical design focus. The building systems included in these two options are summarized below.

Mechanical

  • Plumbing
  • Heating, Cooling, and Ventilating (HVAC)
  • Hydronic Piping and Pumps
  • Refrigeration

Electrical

  • Power
  • Lighting
  • Site Power, Lighting, and Photometrics
  • Emergency Power
  • Fire Alarm

Interns may be considered for permanent employment at the conclusion of this internship based on performance and project needs.

We are passionate about designing safe and comfortable buildings where people thrive. We are also committed to encouraging both men and women in science-based careers.

This internship is filled with opportunities to gain experience working in a team environment, learning 2-D drafting and 3-D modeling tools and techniques, and establishing a career path in building system design.

Training

Our training program includes three components to accelerate your learning opportunities and career growth.

  • The onboarding process includes software training and a weekly plan to support progressive drafting, modeling, and system design experience.
  • You will be paired with an experienced engineer or designer. This will consist of weekly one-on-one meetings, including formal training and an opportunity to get your questions answered.
  • You will be engaged in hands-on work with our projects. You will work on actual projects right out of the gate, adding value to the firm from your first day.

Requirements

  • You must be available to work 40 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months.
  • Working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • We accept candidates who are new high school graduates, in addition to candidates who are 1-2 years out of high school.
  • Applicants should be detail-oriented with phenomenal computer or gaming skills.

Professionally Licensed Electrical Engineer

Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

Seeking a mid/senior-level Electrical Engineer for our office in Boise, Idaho. This challenging position offers a competitive salary with exciting opportunities to continue your engineering career at a busy, quality-focused engineering firm. Responsibilities include:

  • Performing and directing others in detailed building design, including lighting, power, HVAC power, refrigeration power, single line diagrams, lighting controls, security, fire alarm, and related engineering calculations.
  • Mentoring less experienced staff in project execution.
  • Ensuring that design standards and quality control procedures are followed and that the project team is resourced for efficient project execution.
  • Performing quality control design reviews for client deliverables.
  • Managing schedules and budgets for assigned projects.
  • Growing and managing relationships with clients.

Required Education/Experience

  • BSEE (BS in Electrical Engineering) degree from an ABET accredited university.
  • Professional Engineering license (PE).
  • 4+ years of building design experience.
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of industry codes, including the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), Electrical Safety in the Workplace (NFPA 70E), Life Safety Code (NFPA 101), International Building Code (IBC), and IEEE Standards.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD and/or Revit.

Desired Experience

  • Managing two or more people on a project team.

Compensation

$85,000 to $100,000 per year depending on experience and qualifications.

Electrical Design Lead

  • Leading other electrical designers in a team-focused environment to complete detailed building designs, including lighting, power, HVAC power, refrigeration power, single line diagrams, lighting controls, security, fire alarm, and related engineering calculations.
  • Training less experienced staff in engineering design and drafting.
  • Ensuring that design standards and quality control procedures are followed and that the project team is resourced for efficient project execution.
  • Monitoring schedules and budgets for assigned projects.
  • Representing the firm and the electrical team during video conferences and in-person meetings with clients and project partners.

Required Education/Experience

  • Associates degree in Design and Drafting (or equivalent technical degree).
  • 4+ years design experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • 2+ years of building design experience.
  • Working knowledge of industry codes, including the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), Electrical Safety in the Workplace (NFPA 70E), Life Safety Code (NFPA 101), International Building Code (IBC), and IEEE Standards.

Electrical Designer

Seeking an entry/mid-level Electrical Designer for our office in Boise, Idaho. This challenging position offers a competitive salary with exciting opportunities to grow or start your engineering career at a busy, quality-focused engineering firm. Responsibilities include working in a team environment to develop engineering documents, including lighting layouts, electrical equipment layouts, and single line diagrams using 2D and 3D modeling software.

Duties include electrical design for lighting, power, HVAC power, refrigeration power, coordination with other engineering disciplines, and occasional field assignments. Develop electrical drawings, details, and other engineering deliverables for new building and remodel projects.

Required Education/Experience

  • Associates degree in Design and Drafting (or equivalent technical degree).
  • 2+ years design/drafting experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • BSEE (BS in Electrical Engineering) degree from an ABET accredited university is a plus but not required.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) is a plus but not required.

Desired Experience

  • Knowledge of electrical design, electrical equipment, National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), and IEEE Standards.

Mechanical Designer

Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Designer, you will have the opportunity to help us grow our engineering team into the future. You will not be responsible for managing people only your work. We are always looking for our team members to grow in their roles and careers. The opportunity for advancement within the company is available and career growth is supported.

Mechanical Designer’s will execute the design of systems for multiple types of construction projects. This will include Commercial, Multifamily, Industrial and Healthcare projects. You will work independently to design and draft systems in Revit. Drafter support will be available as required. You will also review and sign off on the Plumbing designs from other designers. Daily responsibilities include some administrative computer work associated with the standards of Engineering Consultants. You will need to organize your time to achieve due dates and project schedules.

Required Education/Experience

  • Associates degree in Design and Drafting (or equivalent technical degree).
  • 2+ years design/drafting experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit.

Desired Experience

  • Proficient ability to operate and design in REVIT BIM software
  • Spreadsheet programs (Microsoft Office)
